South Dakota's FADA Tabled By Senate Committee

South Dakota's HB 1107 FADA bill has been tabled by the state's Senate Judiciary Committee, effectively killing it.

A legislative committee tabled a bill Thursday that would allow people or organizations to discriminate against same-sex couples, unmarried pregnant women or transgender people without jeopardizing state contracts or employment.

The Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved a motion to kill the bill from the measure's sponsor, Rep. Scott Craig, R-Rapid City. Craig has previously said the proposal is about protecting freedom of speech for those with conservative views, but opponents warned the legislation, if approved, would endorse discrimination and could put the state in violation of federal law.
